73: Skin Type Series: Acne [Part 1] | Healing Acne From Within
The ACNE episode in our Skin Type Series is finally here!!
If you haven’t yet, make sure to listen to the first few episodes of our Skin Type Series:
Let’s be real — skin issues like acne are not technically life threatening, but man — they are a pain in the ass. Acne is associated with depression, anxiety, and social isolation and frankly — ACNE STEALS JOY.
Between 79–95 percent of adolescents and 40–54 percent of adults experience acne. The reality is, acne is frustrating no matter what age it shows up, but it can be particularly unnerving for adults. Unfortunately, adult acne can sometimes develop well into your 30s, 40s, and 50s — it’s even possible to develop acne later in life even if you skated by in your younger years without a blemish.
Acne does not discriminate against age, lifestyle, or even skin type. RUDE.
Hormonal fluctuations, dietary changes, shifts in gut flora, and environmental factors can all impact the health of our skin and cause breakouts. The most important thing to understand about virtually all skin disorders is that, like all other “diseases of civilization”, they are inflammatory in nature. Which is great news! This means we can address skin issues like acne with an anti-inflammatory diet, digestive support, and lifestyle changes.
During this part 1 of this episode on acneic skin we chat about...
factors that contribute to acne
lifestyle changes
addressing nutritional deficiencies
supporting digestion
supplements that support skin health
foods that help heal the skin
next steps for those who already eat clean + supplement
